The Rise of Wearable Technology

Wearable Technology has become a buzzword among marketers, early-adopters and well-being experts. While it is still not commonly seen with the public as Smartphones do, we still see a growing trend.

What exactly is Wearable Technology? According to WT, they are “technologies worn close to the body, on the body and even in the body.” The Wearable Technology we most commonly see today are Smart Watches and fitness trackers. With Apple Watch, fitbit dominating the market.

While they offer a variety of capabilities, most of these products are fitness-focused. What unites most wearable technology products is that they use sensors makers embedded into everyday products like a watch, shoe, headband or necklace.

Smart clothing is just starting to emerge as a significant market entity. Now, companies like Samsung, Google, OMSignal, Hexo Skin and Under Armour are looking into ways to makes apparel as smart as smartphones.

It is important for retailers to keep up with the current trend and stay relevant, as Wearable Technology will only grow further.
