Smart Nation Initiative: Mobile-payment
Payments are going cashless. As part of the Smart Nation Initiative proposed by the Government, merchants are beginning to adopt different E-payment platforms to stay competitive. 
PayNow
PayNow was introduced in July 2017, the convenient Peer-to-Peer fund transfer with only the recipient’s IC or phone number. Integrated by different participating banks’ payment services, such as DBS PayLah, UOB Mighty, OCBC Pay Anyone, Maybank Mobile Money and Standard Chartered’s SC Mobile.
It will be allowed for business transactions from 13 th August 2018 via PayNow Corporate. This means all businesses can receive or send payments with their business registration number linked to their bank account.
SGQR
By end of this year, the government will also introduce SGQR. It is a unified QR payment code for merchants to receive payments from customers. The consumers will be able to pay the merchants by scanning the SGQR displayed at the store and enter the amount they need to pay. This will effectively speed up the time consumed at the cashier, therefore improve businesses’ productivity.
MegaPOS
MegaPOS’s new Mobile Ordering system helps F&B merchants to create a mobile ordering page, allowing consumers to make orders using their personal mobile phone, up to 24 hours in advance.
After an order has been made, a QR code will be generated on the consumer’s phone. The consumer can then go down to any outlet, scan the QR code to make payment through a self-servicing kiosk before dine in or take away.
Implementation of the MegaPOS’s system shortens the ordering and payment process and improve businesses’ productivity. Removing the unnecessary time consumed for customers to decide on their order. It also minimizes the communication error or human error during the traditional ordering process. As the system only clocks in order upon consumer on-premise payment, it helps merchants to better schedule food preparation. Moreover, for merchants with multiple outlets, customers will have more flexibility to decide which outlet they wish to visit.
